Tropical Storm Erin likely to be 1st hurricane of season, not forecast to hit US

Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the eastern Atlantic and is expected to become the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season. Forecasters predict that Erin will strengthen and could even reach major hurricane status (Category 3 or higher) by the weekend.

The storm's current track is taking it westward across the Atlantic, but models generally agree that it will eventually turn north, keeping it away from the U.S. mainland.3 However, it is still too early for a definitive forecast, and residents of Bermuda and the Bahamas are advised to closely monitor the storm's progress.

While the storm is not expected to make landfall in the U.S., its effects could still be felt along the East Coast, with the possibility of increased rough surf and rip currents next weekend and into the following week.
